Our Specialised Care Services

At Waverley Lodge, we provide expert care that respects individuality and promotes independence. Our services are specifically designed to support adults aged 18 to 65 living with physical disabilities, complex health conditions, and neurological disorders. We offer 24/7 nursing care, short stay and respite placements, specialist dementia support, and a vibrant, inclusive environment for younger adults. Every care plan is personalised, regularly reviewed, and delivered by a compassionate team dedicated to helping residents live with dignity, purpose, and joy.

  • Nursing care at Waverley Lodge is delivered with clinical precision, heartfelt empathy, and a deep commitment to improving quality of life. Designed specifically for adults aged 18 to 65, the care we provide is not only age-appropriate but also fully responsive to a wide range of complex needs, including neurological conditions, physical disabilities, and progressive illnesses.

Our team of highly trained nurses and carers has extensive experience managing conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, motor neurone disease, diabetes, and post-traumatic injuries. With this expertise, we ensure that every resident receives the right level of medical oversight, daily assistance, and personal attention—without compromising independence or individuality.

The nursing care journey begins with a personalised care plan, created in collaboration with the resident, their family or carers, and healthcare professionals. This plan reflects the resident’s medical requirements, emotional wellbeing, goals, and preferences. It is reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed, ensuring that our care remains dynamic, relevant, and effective.

At Waverley Lodge, we believe that nursing care should support not just survival, but a vibrant life. That’s why we go beyond routine care—offering daily support with medication, nutrition, mobility, and hygiene in a way that upholds dignity and empowers choice. Our modern, purpose-built home is fitted with specialist bathrooms, accessible equipment, and safety-enhancing features that allow us to deliver care in a manner that is both discreet and effective.

What truly sets our nursing care apart is the team behind it. Under the leadership of Registered Manager Jenny Wheeler—whose career in care spans decades—our staff are known for their compassion, attentiveness, and professionalism. Senior Nurse Gergana Zlatarova brings a wealth of clinical experience and a personal dedication that has shaped the supportive, family-like culture at Waverley. Together, they lead a multidisciplinary team committed to continuous improvement and personalised support.

Beyond physical care, Waverley Lodge offers a vibrant daily life. Residents are encouraged to take part in group activities, one-on-one sessions, and regular outings that stimulate the mind, body, and spirit. Whether it’s a karaoke night, a boat trip, or a quiet moment in our beautiful garden, every experience is curated to promote wellbeing and joy.

Nutrition also plays a critical role in our nursing care. Residents enjoy freshly prepared meals tailored to dietary needs and personal tastes, served in bright, sociable dining areas. We understand that good food is not just fuel—it’s comfort, community, and culture.

For families, placing a loved one in care can be a daunting decision. At Waverley Lodge, we make that choice easier by offering open communication, transparency, and a commitment to care that feels personal. With expert nursing around the clock and a culture of kindness at every level, we ensure peace of mind, not only for our residents but also for those who love them.

  • Dementia care at Waverley Lodge is designed to meet the unique and evolving needs of adults aged 18 to 65 who are living with memory-related conditions. With a compassionate, person-centred approach, our team provides highly specialised support in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment—helping each individual maintain their identity, independence, and dignity.

Our team is trained to support a wide range of dementia-related challenges, including those caused by early-onset Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, and cognitive decline associated with neurological disorders such as Huntington’s or Parkinson’s disease. We understand that dementia doesn’t present the same way in every individual—especially in younger adults—so our care plans are carefully tailored to address cognitive, physical, and emotional needs on a case-by-case basis.

From the moment a resident joins Waverley Lodge, we build a detailed care plan in collaboration with them, their family, and relevant healthcare professionals. This personalised plan outlines routines, communication preferences, risk factors, and comforting strategies to help minimise confusion and maximise stability. The plan is dynamic—regularly updated to respond to changing conditions and needs.

The Waverley team is trained not only in clinical best practices but also in the human side of dementia care: patience, empathy, consistency, and understanding. We create an atmosphere where residents feel safe, understood, and connected. Staff are consistently assigned to residents to support familiarity and reduce anxiety, and the entire environment is designed to be easy to navigate, visually intuitive, and calming.

Our purpose-built home features wide corridors, dementia-friendly signage, and well-lit spaces that reduce shadows and confusion. The secure outdoor areas allow residents to enjoy fresh air and greenery safely, while internal communal spaces offer opportunities for structured and spontaneous interaction throughout the day.

Activities play a central role in our dementia care. Led by our dedicated Activities Lead, Linsey, residents can enjoy a vibrant programme that includes music, crafts, movement, storytelling, and memory-based activities tailored to each person’s interests and capabilities. Whether it’s a themed day, a karaoke session, or a minibus trip to Hythe Marina, we strive to keep every resident engaged and fulfilled.

Mealtimes are also an important part of dementia support. Our kitchen team prepares fresh, nutritious meals with options that accommodate dietary restrictions and sensory preferences. Dining areas are designed to be calm, sociable, and comfortable, encouraging healthy routines and social connection.

But beyond facilities and programmes, it’s the emotional care that defines Waverley’s dementia services. We take the time to know each resident’s story—who they are, not just what they need. We help them find joy in daily routines, purpose in small tasks, and companionship in shared moments. Our care goes far beyond symptom management—it’s about preserving identity, creating meaningful connections, and ensuring that every day holds dignity, value, and comfort.

At Waverley Lodge, dementia care is not a process—it’s a relationship. One built on trust, understanding, and the unwavering belief that every individual deserves to be seen, respected, and loved—just as they are.

  • At Waverley Lodge, short stay and respite care offer a vital opportunity for rest, recovery, and renewal—both for individuals in need of temporary care and the families who support them. Whether you’re seeking a brief period of professional care following hospital discharge, a trial stay to experience our community, or a much-needed break from caregiving responsibilities, Waverley provides a warm, welcoming environment where every short stay feels like home.

Our purpose-built care home is specifically designed to support adults aged 18 to 65 living with a range of physical disabilities and complex health conditions. From multiple sclerosis and epilepsy to post-injury rehabilitation and neurological disorders, our experienced team is equipped to manage both medical and daily living needs with dignity and precision.

Upon arrival, every respite resident receives a full assessment, and a personalised care plan is created in collaboration with them and their family or care coordinator. This ensures that their stay—whether a few days or a few weeks—is carefully aligned with their needs, routines, and preferences. All care is delivered by trained nurses and support staff, with 24/7 coverage for medication management, mobility assistance, and personal care.

Respite at Waverley is not only about clinical support—it’s also about community, stimulation, and a change of pace. Our residents enjoy spacious, accessible bedrooms, sociable lounge areas, and bright dining spaces that make the home feel lively yet calm. Activities are central to our ethos, and our full calendar of events ensures that short stay guests are just as engaged and included as long-term residents.

Under the guidance of Activities Lead Linsey, residents are encouraged to participate in whatever brings them joy. From boat trips and cinema outings to themed days, crafts, and karaoke, the goal is to make every day uplifting and meaningful. For those who prefer quieter experiences, our peaceful gardens, personal reading spaces, and one-on-one engagement offer a comforting retreat.

We also understand that for families and carers, taking a break can come with concerns about safety, quality of care, and emotional continuity. At Waverley Lodge, we build trust from day one—keeping communication open, involving families in care decisions, and ensuring complete transparency in all we do. Our goal is not just to support the person receiving care, but to empower their caregivers with peace of mind.

Nutrition is another priority during short stays. Our chefs prepare fresh, seasonal meals daily, adapting dishes to suit any dietary needs or personal tastes. Mealtimes are social highlights, enjoyed in cheerful, accessible dining rooms that encourage companionship and comfort.

Perhaps most importantly, respite care at Waverley is designed to uplift. Whether it’s helping a resident regain independence, supporting rehabilitation, or simply providing a change of scenery and a joyful experience, we see every short stay as an opportunity to make life better—physically, emotionally, and socially.

At Waverley Lodge, respite isn’t just a break. It’s a boost—a moment of care, connection, and renewal that can make a lasting difference.

  • Waverley Lodge Nursing Home is proud to provide exceptional, age-appropriate care for physically disabled adults aged 18 to 65. We understand that younger adults with physical and neurological conditions have different goals, lifestyles, and expectations than older residents in traditional care settings. That’s why Waverley Lodge is purpose-built to support independence, ambition, and individuality—empowering each resident to live fully, confidently, and with dignity.

Our team has extensive experience caring for individuals with a wide range of complex conditions including multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, motor neurone disease, diabetes-related complications, amputations, and acquired brain injuries. We take a highly personalised approach, ensuring that every resident receives a bespoke care plan that adapts to their evolving health, goals, and preferences.

Beyond meeting clinical needs, our priority is to create a vibrant, inclusive community where residents feel respected, engaged, and connected. We believe in supporting ability, not defining by disability. Every aspect of life at Waverley— from physical care to social opportunities—is tailored to reflect the lifestyle and preferences of younger adults. Whether residents are here for long-term care, transitional recovery, or a supported lifestyle, we make sure they remain active participants in their own lives.

The environment at Waverley plays a major role in this. The home features 26 spacious, modern bedrooms, each equipped with accessible design elements such as adapted bathrooms, wide doorways, and adjustable beds. The home’s communal areas are warm, lively, and inclusive, with several social lounges, bright dining areas, and secure outdoor gardens for fresh air and relaxation.

Activities are core to our care model and are led by our dedicated Activities Lead, Linsey. She crafts an energetic and imaginative programme of daily events, outings, and personalised activities that reflect the interests and abilities of our residents. From trips to the cinema and local marinas to themed days, karaoke nights, and pampering sessions, we ensure life at Waverley is full of enjoyment and meaningful engagement.

What makes Waverley truly special is our team’s heartfelt connection to the residents. Long-standing staff like Registered Manager Jenny Wheeler and Senior Nurse Gery bring not only deep expertise but a genuine sense of community and continuity. Gery refers to Waverley as her “second family,” and this warmth permeates every interaction. Residents are known by name, understood as individuals, and encouraged to pursue what brings them happiness—whether that’s caring for our resident guinea pig Tufty, engaging in genealogy, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea.

Our care also extends to emotional and psychological wellbeing. Many residents arrive after a major life transition, and our team is trained to support adjustment, rebuild confidence, and foster a renewed sense of purpose. We coordinate closely with external therapists, families, and support networks to create a truly holistic circle of care.

At Waverley Lodge, we don’t just provide care—we provide possibility. For young adults living with physical disabilities, we offer not only a safe and supportive place to live, but a space to grow, connect, and thrive.
